Project DiaStar Server - SS7 Configuration
From ProjectDiaStar
Introduction
One of the 3 supported protocols available under DiaStar™ (in addition to ISDN and SIP) is SS7 signaling. Like ISDN, bearer channels that carry media use time division multiplexing. (TDM) Thus, the DiaStar server functions as a gateway between Asterisk and the PSTN. The SS7 signaling, however, may be done in several different ways.
Here are the three possibilities for SS7 signaling that may be used with DiaStar:
- Dialogic® SIGTRAN - SS7 signaling over IP through the host NIC. DNI boards are used for T1/E1 bearer channels. Product descriptions for SIGTRAN may be found [here] and SIGTRAN documentation and support [here].
- Dialogic® Distributed Signaling Interface Network Interface Boards (DSI) - a combination of conventional SS7 signaling over a 64Kbps channel combined with bearer channels on T1/E1 spans. Product descriptions for DSI hardware may be found [here], and DSI documentation and support [here].
- Dialogic® Signaling Interface Unit (SIU) - SS7 signaling is handled by a separate system that contains DSI hardware. Signaling information is sent to DiaStar via a TCP/IP connection to the SIU. Product descriptions for SIU hardware may be found [here] and and SIU documentation and support [here].
