The DiaStar Public Demo system
What sort of applications are possible using DiaStar's SIP and MultiMedia capabilities combined with a simple Asterisk dialplan?
Take a test drive of our IVVR, video conferencing or video streaming demos and find out.
The DiaStar Public Demo System hosts a good assortment of demos, including video conferencing demos. A DiaStar installation of your own is not needed and you may call in with any SIP video phone.
There are three types of demos:
- Interactive voice and video response (IVVR)
- Video conferencing
- Video streaming
Accessing the Demo using a PC-Based SIP Video Phone
A free, open source SIP softphone that works well with DiaStar is linphone. It can be downloaded here. For best results, you should also download and install the open source H.264 video codec, as its quality is far better than the default H.263 that comes with linphone. The Windows binary version of the codec can be found here.
Once you have installed the phone and the H.264 codec, this is what you need to do to configure it:
- Go to Linphone -> Preferences -> Manage SIP Accounts -> Add
- Your SIP Identity: sip:yourname@demo.projectdiastar.org
- SIP Proxy address: sip:demo.projectdiastar.org
- Check off "Register at startup"
- Go to Linphone -> Preferences -> Codecs -> Audio codecs
- Disable all audio codecs except PCMU
- Go to Linphone -> Preferences -> Codecs -> Video codecs
- Disable all video codecs except H264
- Click "Done"
- You should see "Registration on sip:demo.projectdiastar.org sccsessful" at the bottom of the window
- You are now ready to try the demos
- Dial 400 to get to the main demo menu
Accessing the Demos from an iPhone
A document on how to download and set up the VoipSwitch Vippie SIP softphone for iPhone will be available soon. Please check back here.
Other SIP Video Phones
Information on other SIP video phones that have been used with DiaStar is also available.
Accessing the Demos Using a Web Browser
DiaStar demos on the Public Demo Server may also be accessed through any web browser that supports an Adobe Flash plug-in, such as Firefox or Internet Excplorer. A "Flash Phone" application is downloaded to and brought up in the browser. You may then use the phone much like a PC-based SIP softphone. The one limitation is that you are only able to get video in the download direction, so you will not be able to participate in a video conference or make a video recording.
- Make sure your browser has an Adobe flash plug-in installed. You can download it here.
- Point your browser at
http://demo.projectdiastar.org:10080/flashPhone.html - A Sample Flash Phone should appear
- In the Server URI field, enter
rtmp://demo.projectdiastar.org:1935/telephony - Hit the Connect button. You should see a dialpad and
Your phone ID is: XXXXin the upper left corner - You are now registered with the Diastar Demo and can enter any of the demo extensions
- Remember that audio/video is one way – download toward the browser. So, participating in a video conference or making a video recording will not work. The controlled conference demo is best for the flash phone – there is an option for an “Attendee” – which is listen/view only
- Dial "400" to get to the main menu
The Demos
The main menu, at extension 400, will be the starting point for choosing the demo you want to see:
From there, the following demos can be reached:
Car Rental
An IVVR demo to show your options for a way-too-exotic car rental with an outdial to a live agent
Baseball
The Dialogic Pitch Finder is an instructional interactive video for the sports-minded. It teaches you the various grips for throwing a variety of baseball pitches - fastballs, curveballs, sliders, etc.
Music Videos
- A video jukebox showing a sampling of Lady Gaga tunes and videos
Video Conferencing
Our most interesting set of demos. They include:
- Animal Conference– a video conference in which you are joined by 3 talkative animals
- PIN-Based Conferencing– The first caller is assigned a conference ID number. Up to 3 subsequent callers entering the same ID are sent into the same conference room
- Conference Record – records and replays a pin-based video conference
- Controlled Conferencing - an example of a conference where a controller starts the conference, which then allows presenters (full participants) and attendees (view/listen only) to enter
Security
Connections to several live security cameras streaming their video as RTSP. (real time streaming protocol) When a camera is chosen, streaming video from the camera is displayed on your screen.
